Innovating in a safe environment.
MMBay volunteer leader Matthew W. is currently preparing to become a medical school student, and joined MMBay in 2023 as a founding Co-Chief Program Officer of the San Jose site. Matthew is Volunteer #1 of our San Jose site, and a critical leader in drawing in more volunteers to join the leadership team as well as the broader volunteer coalition. Reflecting on his experience, Matthew shares why he was inspired to lead at MMBay:
“Many of the closest people in my life have needed the types of services - and above all, the kind of human connection - that MMBay offers. I was excited to help build a well-run organization that I knew would bring incredible opportunities to people in my community.
I find it really special that MMBay is able to be such a large organization, while also remaining nimble in order to meet the needs of students. I founded an organization when I was a college undergrad, so entrepreneurship is in my DNA. What attracted me most to MMBay was having the best of both worlds: being guided by a Regional team that had knowledge, experience, and resources to offer, while also being able to grow my entrepreneurial skills in founding a new site.”
